Acid Reflux in 3 Month Old Babies

Is your 3 month old baby recently become very gassy, spitting up a lot after feedings, constantly fussing in pain and spitting up all over you?

You’re not alone gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) is hitting babies in untold number. Babies even younger than 3 months old are struggling with acid reflux symptoms sometimes lasting for 1 to two years, often causing irreparable harm.

More than 25% of children being born recently are being diagnosed with gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD). If the acid reflux is excessive it triggers health complications which can become pathologic.

Pathologic acid reflux can increase risk of choking due to reduced throat clearance from inflammation, also weakening mucosal resistance and harming the upper esophageal sphincter (UES). The tubular esophagus is about 10 inches long in an adult and has two specialized sphincters, the upper and lower esophageal sphincters.

The Upper Esophageal Sphincter (UES) is made of several long thin muscles, creating a valve which is designed to prevent air from entering the gastrointestinal tract.

The Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) is made of smooth muscles and is designed to stop gastric acid reflux from entering the esophagus. Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) can do damage to both upper and lower esophageal sphincters.

Often a child subjected to prolonged bouts of acid reflux symptoms will end up suffering from under-nutrition, sleep apnea, hoarseness, respiratory problems, neurological disorders, Esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus and even throat cancer.

Many people are jumping to powerful drugs like proton-pump inhibitors, alginic acid compounds, cisapride and omerprazole. Others dive into surgically repairing the lower esophageal sphincter to stop acid reflux from enter the child’s throat.

Assuming drugs will cure the acid reflux is a mistake; they can only reduce or block some acid reflux from doing further damage.

It is best to seek the advice of an integrative medical doctor or a doctor who is wise to cutting edge alternative health care.

Sometimes vaccines and antibiotics can trigger digestive imbalances of natural flora and even prevent natural immune system development in children. So your child may not even have an over production of digestive gastric acids, the problem may be an inability to digest food, an allergy or even asthma.

Also make sure your child isn’t having an allergic reaction to formula. Many formulas have harmful soy (phytoestrogens) , high lead content or even artificial additives like aspartame or MSG.

Acid Reflux Cough Cure

Just about everyone and their brother does these days. What most people don?t notice right away is the habitual need to clear your throat and the ?unfriendly? cough that accompanies acid reflux burn.

Whatever is triggering the upsurges of your stomach acid, whether it be from a lack of acid or an over production, the fact remains that caustic gastric acid is disrupting your life.

Obviously acid reflux is a serious health condition if it persists, but if it?s allowed to fester and ends up making you cough all the time, you could be headed for more serious complications.

Keep in mind that the acid in your stomach is made from hydrogen and chloride, along with some other nasty flavors. Hydrochloric acid can be a liquid or a gas and it?s dangerous in either form.

It?s very unpleasant to have acid reflux explode into your sensitive esophagus, mouth and sinus areas, but what?s worse is if you inhale the acid reflux particles or gas fumes.

You?ve had water or soda go down the wrong tube before, right? That?s no fun and people choke to death sometimes, but when you?re dealing with a stomach acid it can literally burn your flesh and damage your lung tissue.

Once lung damage has occurred inside your bronchial tubes or lung chambers an infection could trigger an over production of mucus. This is a white cell immune response that can complicate things, called a ?cytokine cascade.?

So if you have acid reflux, persistent coughing and even chest pain, it could be your heartburn is advancing toward becoming a much bigger problem, such as Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease or an infection of the lungs.

Chest pain could mean other things like angina, a hiatal hernia or heart problems, so see a doctor before assuming it?s just from acid reflux.

The problem with finding a cure for acid reflux cough is that when doctors aren?t sure of the root cause, they routinely treat the symptoms.

Just being free of acid reflux burning and coughing symptoms doesn?t mean you?re healthy. Being healthy is more than being symptom free, that?s why getting to the root of your heartburn issues should be a top priority for you.

If you are not eating the right foods, if you?re lying down after meals and if your popping ?useless? antacids, you?ll never find the cure to your acid reflux cough challenge.

Truth is the cure is simpler than you may think, but first things first. Stop eating things that increase toxins, eat foods that provide a natural alkaline base and walk a little after meals- you?ll be surprised how much money you?ll safe avoiding all those unnecessary medications or treatments.

Foods To Avoid If You Have Acid Reflux

If you?re like me, by now you?re tired of people telling you what to eat for acid reflux. That?s the last thing I want to hear is someone limiting what I can do, especially when it comes to my food.

I found a simple solution to all this . . . simply make a ?small list? of what foods to avoid.

Expecting to tell someone what they can eat becomes more like a strict religion, might as well write a what-you-can -eat encyclopedia. Knowing what foods trigger acid reflux is nothing much more than a laundry list.

Once you understand the basic principle behind acid reflux prevention, it?s really just common sense.

However common sense isn?t so common when it comes to acid indigestion, especially since scientists estimate more than 15,000,000 Americans suffer from gastro-esophageal reflux disease and acid reflux type symptoms.

Knowing which few foods to avoid in order to prevent heartburn is a lot simpler and effective than popping heavy metal laden antacids, or ending up taking proton pump inhibitors (PPI) for life.

Avoiding certain foods will eliminate these acid indigestion symptoms:

  • Burning pain in your chest (heartburn) or upper abdomen
  • Irritation in your throat
  • Acid taste in your mouth
  • Bad breath
  • Laryngitis
  • Chronic cough
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Nausea
  • Belching

Unfortunately these symptoms are so common and so nasty that most people go right out and buy whatever the last acid reflux commercial they saw told them too.

One of the biggest scams on the American public, besides anti-cholesterol satins, is acid reflux products. Truth is most people who are led to assume they have too much stomach acid really don?t produce enough.

A stomach acid deficiency still causes acid reflux, but for different reasons than you think.

Imagine all that food sitting in your gut just fermenting, until finally your body makes another shot of acid reflux and shoots it up into your throat. Why? Because ?your gut is full? of undigested food and believe me, it doesn?t take a large amount of stomach acid to feel like ?too much.?

? Animal fats- Try lean grass fed meats

? Onions- Try uncooked with greens

Everyone is different, so you can figure out the rest. But basically avoid ?refined? sugars, salts and oils, cut out the fatty meats and enjoy alkaline producing lemons and limes, but avoid sugary orange juice.

Esophagus With Acid Reflux

12,000 Americans die each year from esophageal cancer, and its primary warning symptom is acid reflux. Acid reflux is a ?warning symptoms? of possible Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).

Keep in mind that acid reflux is a symptom and not a disease. Unfortunately because most people put of treating the root cause properly it winds up doing harm to the esophagus.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) happens when the esophagus gets irritated and inflamed from acid reflux splashing up from the stomach.

The stomach produces hydrochloric acid after a meal to aid in the digestion of food. The stomach is naturally protected from this caustic digestive acid. The outer lining of cells in your stomach creates massive amounts of mucus.

However the cells lining the esophagus (throat) do not make this protective mucus coating, leaving it vulnerable to up surges of acid rebound.

Acid reflux, or rebound, is more commonly referred to as heartburn simply because the base of your esophagus is located behind your heart.

If you?ve ever experienced a bad case of acid indigestion, you?ve felt this burning sensation behind your heart at the bottom of your esophagus.

When the ?warning symptoms? are ignored, the stomach acid rebounds higher and higher up the esophagus chemically scalding the delicate cells along your throat, inside your mouth and even up into your sinus tissues.

You may wonder how it can surge up the esophagus and the truth is it shouldn?t ever do that because there is a ?safety valve that?s supposed to prevent acid reflux from erupting all the up the throat.

This seal or safety valve in the base of your esophagus is called the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES). It?s designed to open when you swallow food or drink, allowing food stuff to enter your gut. After the food leaves the esophagus it?s supposed to close, sealing off and guarding your throat, mouth and sinus tissue, as well as keeping your food down where it belongs.

The problem is after proper treatment of your acid reflux is delayed for a long time, the corrosive stomach acid that has been pushed up against it and eventually weakens the muscle response of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).

Once the acid has had an opportunity to weaken the esophagus?s safety valve (LES), digestive juices and acids then begin leaking into the vulnerable esophageal tube area.

Eventually this develops into Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which erodes and mutates the cells of your throat often leading to throat cancer and sometimes death.

Approximately 30% of adults in the US experience this Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) on a monthly basis and about 10% of adults in the US go through this weekly. Shockingly, these days even children and infants develop Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), thanks to lack of common sense when it comes to dietary habits in America.

Fatty fried foods, alcohol, cigarettes, certain pharmaceuticals, lack of exercise and poor posture even play a role.

I found plenty of natural alternatives millions of people are discovering that help reverse Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), simply because acid reflux is primarily a nutritional deficiency, not a drug shortage.

OTC drugs have been found to actually make acid reflux worse, so my advice is if something you took didn?t work, keep trying new things, like eating an apple for instance, that works well for millions of people-in-the-know.
