Diet And Acid Reflux
[[Dear Friend,]]
Acid reflux is usually triggered from overeating. Frankly overeating is really bad for you anyway you look at it. Not only can your diet habits be responsible for triggering an acid reflux, according to scientific studies it will shorten your lifespan.
Correct diet, activity levels and natural attitude are a few of the common denominators to extraordinary health, other than quality of air and water, nothing determines your health more.
So in a way I guess you could say acid reflux is one of those symptoms that are warning you could be in danger of a premature death. It would be ridiculous to believe acid reflux is a cause of death, when actually acid reflux is a symptom you?re accelerating your aging process . . . acid reflux is only the symptom, that cause is your diet..
Take an example from the Okinawans; they really know how to live.
It just so happens that, Okinawa, Japan has the highest percentage of indigenous 100 year olds in the whole world. They also have 80% fewer heart attacks than people in the United States, 50% less incidence of colon cancer and less than 25% of the cases of ovarian, prostate and breast cancer.
Many Okinawans live to be super-centenarians, that is, they live 110 years of longer. Imagine being an octogenarian grandparent, which means having eight generations of grand kids.
If you enjoy your food like I do, you?ll love this once you give it a try: eat less more.
The key to curing your acid reflux issues is to eat less, don?t eat till your full and eat 4 to 7 times a day, oh yeah and drink naturally alkalized water in between meals.
A study of Okinawan longevity revealed that they eat 7 servings of vegetables and grains a day. Plus they eat 2 servings of ?fermented? soy, like tempeh or tofu, eat very little dairy and plenty of wild caught fish every week.
NOTE: Unfermented (green) soy can cause acid reflux symptoms because the soy allergens and other phytotoxins. Fermentation eliminates the phytotoxins that can trigger acid indigestion, heartburn or acid reflux.
If you can?t eat and live like a super centenarian islander, then at least try to spread your meals out further, eating less, but eating more often through the day.
Here are a few more tips: Try not to eat at least 3 hours before bedtime, eat your protein before your carbohydrates and focus on eating 80% raw fruits and vegetables . . . lightly steamed or grilled is acceptable.
You acid reflux is directly triggered from your diet and obviously is a symptom, or sign, you need to make some lifestyle modifications and starting with your diet is a sure bet.

It’s a scientific reality that in America “at least” 15,000,000 people suffer from acid reflux and if half of them knew the benefits of raw yogurt there would be half as many suffering from acid reflux symptoms.
Yogurt qualifies as a new group of healing foods called “functional foods.”
Suggesting until now most Americans have been exposed to mostly “dysfunctional foods,” you could say.
Yogurt in itself isn’t a cure for acid reflux, however the whole group of “functional foods” is. Yogurt just represents a small fraction of the healing foods available to help remove the root cause of acid reflux, acid indigestion and heartburn.
Treating the symptoms of acid reflux is what created 15,000,000 Americans who constantly suffer from the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux diseases.
I find it interesting and maybe you will too, that in these difficult times the only companies really making seemingly unlimited amounts of money , with exception of the petroleum sheiks, are the pharmaceutical corporations.
Sadly, government protected medicine ensures their? financial success despite of their blatant short comings and outright failure to cure anything these days . . . even simple heartburn.
Acid reflux can be cured by consuming yogurt rich with natural probiotics, which simply restore and help maintain the natural pH balance in your gut.
Yogurt is not the end all of acid indigestion, heartburn or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), but it’s a foot marching in the right direction.
Many yogurts contain little if any beneficial micro-organisms such as probiotics.
In fact many of these so-called yogurts are so full of sugar,? additives and artificial sweeteners that they are nothing more than examples of supreme contradiction.
In fact the bad bacteria like Helicobacter pylori thrive off the acid pH environment sugar and undigested animal proteins helps create.
Beneficial micro-organisms naturally occur in raw yogurt, but because of the over pasteurization of dairy products in America, any probiotics you can find in these commercialized yogurt brands had to be added after the fact.
It’s just NOT the same.
There is no comparison to the benefits of eating raw sheep or goats’ milk products like kefir, cheese and yogurt, these are abundant in healthful flora building micro-organisms that will help optimize your gut pH and digestive health.
I mentioned sheep and goat yogurt products for two reasons.
1.?????? They are grass fed.
2.?????? Their protein is similar to human breast milk.
Both of these factors are responsible for a superior product higher in nutrition, probiotics and are easier to digest. Cow’s milk has a larger protein molecule made for growing baby heifers? remarkably fast. These larger protein molecules? are hard to digest and can cause allergic reactions and are also known to induce a more acidic pH in the gut because of the wasted, undigested animal protein.
The good bacteria and micro-organisms thrive in a more alkaline pH environment.
One of the causes of acid reflux is from an acidic pH level that produces harmful bacteria, killing off the good flora.
So yes, yogurt is great for acid reflux and combined with a high? protein plant-based diet, ample sunshine and a semi-active lifestyle you can overcome acid reflux, heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux diseases naturally, without getting deceived by ineffective and outright harmful pharmaceutical gimmicks .

Gastroesophageal Reflux Symptoms
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is generally characterized by the onset of heartburn more than twice a week. Its symptoms can be very bothersome and painful, including heartburn, nausea and regurgitation.
Heartburn occurs when acid makes its way back into the esophagus, irritating the nerves found there. GERD sufferers most commonly feel this irritation as pain. The pain of heartburn is generally described as burning in the center of the chest that can start high and move up to the throat.
Regurgitation is when the feeling of acid coming back into the mouth occurs. It can be characterized by a bitter our sour taste accompanied by a wet burp.
Dyspepsia happens to many people with GERD. It is just a general way of defining an upset stomach. It includes burping, nausea, excessive hiccups and an overall feeling of discomfort in the stomach.
Symptoms occur as a result of many day to day things.
? Eating too much results in pressure buildup in the stomach, causing reflux.
? Eating right before bed can also cause heartburn.
? Smoking can aggravate GERD symptoms.
? Certain over the counter medications can also exacerbate GERD. NSAID pain relievers ? such as ibuprofen and aspirin ? as well as vitamins ? like potassium, calcium and iron ? can cause acid build up.
? Some people with certain health problems are more likely to experience symptoms of GERD. Those with Type 1 Diabetes may have a digestive condition that slows the flow of food through the stomach causing pressure to build and acid to move into the esophagus. Pregnant women may also experience a high volume of heartburn. Additionally, there is a link between Hiatal Hernia and symptoms of GERD. A Hiatal Hernia happens when part of the stomach is displaced ? either into the esophagus or up next to it. This condition can cause acid flow and production to be disrupted causing heartburn.
? People who are overweight may experience heartburn simply as a result of the added weight on their chest and abdomen. The weight puts pressure on the stomach, causing reflux.
? Certain foods can also aggravate GERD and bring the symptoms on. Foods like citrus, caffeine, alcohol, garlic and onion are common ones, however GERD sufferers all have their own unique food triggers for heart burn.
If you experience chest pain associated with arm numbness and shortness of breath, please see a doctor immediately. It can be a sign of a heart attack, and not simply heartburn.

Acid Reflux and Anxiety Attacks
If you suffer from acid reflux or gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), then you are already aware of its painful effects. Even more disruptive than pain, it can cause a variety of unwanted physical and emotional responses. If you are a sufferer, you are familiar with the burning in your chest, upset stomach, nausea, and acid in your throat. Often, taking drugs such as Nexium, Tagamet, Omeprazole, Prevacid, Prilosec and Zantac provide only temporary relief. Indeed, these drugs are only intended to be taken for two weeks at a time, with a substantial break in between. Perhaps you’ve even been that person who constantly chews Tums or Rolaids, hoping for some relief from the burning. There is a psychological component to acid reflux that has been researched and documented. Researchers have determined that acid reflux and anxiety attacks may be related, simply because of the stress and terrible feelings it can cause.
This stress manifests itself in acid reflux sufferers as anxiety, which may even cause greater agitation of the esophagus, stomach and throat. Relaxation techniques have been shown to relieve acid levels in patients, which may be of benefit to anyone who is suffering not only from the acid reflux symptoms, but additional the anxiety and in some circumstances even panic attacks. The unwanted symptoms from acid reflux and anxiety attacks can be increased through lack of sleep. Acid back-flow, which occurs in the prone position one assumes when sleeping, can lead to emotional and psychological as well.
Anxiety can be felt as anxiousness, nervousness, sweating, rapid pulse, rapid breathing, anxious thoughts or actions, inability to sleep, or the feeling that the world is about to end. When you add a physical component such as acid reflux to this mix, you can aggravate both conditions, each feeding off the other, causing heightened symptoms. It can be severe, as the insomnia is caused by the acid that is flowing up into your throat and mouth. Severe burning may occur when stomach acid hits parts of the body it was never intended to meet. Stomach acid is corrosive and causes many problems when it is introduced into the body. This vicious cycle, however, can be abated.
Patients can be taught muscle relaxation techniques to combat the anxiety that aggravates acid reflux and GERD symptoms. Such relaxation eases the anxiety to the point where acid triggers are eased, thereby offering relief from further stomach and esophagus troubles. You can learn to relax your muscles and your emotional state to achieve peace of mind. A holistic approach to acid reflux treatment is possible with simple relaxation and stretching techniques. Acid reflux and anxiety attacks do not have to go hand in hand, but when they do, know that relief is available from a natural, easy-to-access source: your own body.
